Andy Sabin Foundation Scholarships for Marine Science
The School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences is pleased to announce the spring competition for Andy Sabin Foundation Scholarships to undergraduate students (similar to the former Frankel Foundation Scholarships). These scholarships are available to outstanding Stony Brook University undergraduate students majoring in marine science or marine science vertebrate and are up to $4,000 in value. Scholarships may be used to participate in marine science extracurricular activity which places a financial burden on students beyond normal costs of their undergraduate education. Spring scholarships have traditional support participation in summer research with SoMAS faculty and graduate students but can also be used for mentored, laboratory research with a scientist at other institution, an internship experience, or another travel related experience. Students must have a GPA above a 3.0 to be considered for this scholarship.
To be considered, please submit the following:
- A ~2 page essay describing what you would like to do with the award money and why this award would enhance your Stony Brook University education. You should also discuss why you are interested in marine science, what you hope to study during your experience, and why participating in this experience will benefit your long term career plans. You should also indicate how you would use the money (e.g. tuition, stipend, housing, travel, supplies). Details and quality of writing are both important for these essays.
- Transcripts from all undergraduate schools attended besides Stony Brook University (unofficial is OK).
- You must have three (3) letters of recommendation with at least one from a faculty member, although 2 or 3 from faculty is best.
- A one page resume highlighting out-of-classroom academic experiences, particularly in marine science
Letters should be signed and sent to:
