Aquatic Toxicology


Research Interests

My research broadly focuses on how aquatic organisms interact with toxic chemicals in their environment. Specifically I am interested in how organisms accumulate and metabolize organic contaminants, and how they respond to such exposure at the cellular, biochemical, and physiological levels. Current projects include evaluation of the combined effects of contaminant exposure and hypoxia on gene expression in fish embryos, the influence of multiple chemical stressors on membrane efflux pumps and developmental toxicity in fish embryos, biological and chemical markers for hypoxia and sewage derived contaminants  in coastal ecosystem, responses of fish to estrogenic chemicals in urban watersheds, evaluation of biological, environmental and anthropogenic factors that influence survival and growth of young-of-the-year winter flounder, and characterization of defense parameters in lobsters associated with susceptibility to epizootic shell disease.
